Short answer: book Welcome Pickups when the arrival itself is the hard part — landing with children, a first visit, or a terminal you do not know. The driver meets you inside arrivals rather than at a rank, child seats are included at no charge, and flights are tracked with 60 minutes of free waiting. It covers 360+ cities, narrower than the other three, and it is the most expensive of the four on most routes. If your destination is on the list and price is not the deciding factor, this is the least stressful way to leave an airport.

Pros

✓ Best-in-class app with real-time driver tracking

✓ Free child seats on all routes

✓ Curated, hand-picked drivers with high standards

✓ In-app chat with driver before and during transfer

✓ Excellent customer support with live chat

Cons

✗ More expensive than competitors (premium pricing)

✗ Smaller coverage — 80 airports vs 100-175 for others

✗ Not available in many developing countries

✗ No economy/budget vehicle tier

How Welcome Pickups Works

Welcome Pickups takes a curated approach to airport transfers. Unlike marketplace platforms where any driver can sign up, Welcome Pickups hand-selects and trains their drivers in each city. This means fewer available routes, but a consistently high-quality experience on the ones they do cover.

The booking process is seamless: enter your airport, destination, and travel details, pick a vehicle, and pay. You get instant confirmation and can download their app to track your driver in real time on the day of transfer — similar to how Uber works, but pre-booked with a fixed price.

Your driver monitors your flight and adjusts pickup time if it's delayed. They meet you in arrivals with a name sign, help with luggage, and often provide a welcome kit with local tips, a SIM card, and a city map — a nice touch that sets them apart from purely transactional competitors.

Pricing & Value

Welcome Pickups is the most expensive option among the four services we compare. A standard sedan transfer from a major airport to city center typically runs €20-60, compared to €10-40 on GetTransfer or €15-50 on Kiwitaxi. You're paying a premium for the curated experience, the app, the driver quality, and extras like free child seats.

Is it worth the premium? For families with kids (free child seats are a genuine differentiator), first-time visitors to a city, or anyone who values a smooth, worry-free experience — yes. For budget travelers or those who just need a car from A to B — the premium may be hard to justify when cheaper alternatives exist.

Coverage

Welcome Pickups covers 360+ cities worldwide, focused on popular tourist destinations in Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas. If you're flying into Rome, Bangkok, Athens, Cancún, or Dubai — they've got you covered.

Where they fall short is secondary airports, developing countries, and off-the-beaten-path destinations. If you're flying into Tbilisi, Colombo, or a smaller regional airport, you'll likely need to look at Kiwitaxi or GetTransfer instead. Welcome Pickups prioritizes depth over breadth — fewer cities, but excellent service in each one.

Popular Welcome Pickups routes & cities

Where Welcome Pickups particularly shines is the major European and global tourist hubs where they've invested in driver training. Here are some of the most-booked routes where we recommend them specifically:

Vehicle Options

Welcome Pickups keeps vehicle selection simple: Sedan (up to 3 passengers), MPV/Minivan (up to 6 passengers), and Van (up to 10 passengers). Each vehicle type is well-maintained and modern — part of their curation process means rejecting vehicles that don't meet their standards.

Unlike GetTransfer, you won't find limousines or buses. Welcome Pickups focuses on doing the standard options exceptionally well rather than covering every niche. For most airport transfers, their three categories are all you need.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Cancel more than 24 hours before pickup and 80% of the fare comes back, the 20% booking fee is kept, or you can take the full amount as a coupon valid 12 months instead. Inside 24 hours nothing is returned, and a booking cannot be changed less than 12 hours ahead. Cancellations within 24 hours are reviewed case-by-case, but Welcome Pickups is generally reasonable about refunds if circumstances are genuinely beyond your control (flight cancellation, medical emergency). Changes to time or destination can usually be made for free if requested early enough through the app or email.

Customer Support

This is a genuine strength. Welcome Pickups offers in-app chat, email support, and phone support — the broadest support options among the four services we compare. The in-app chat is particularly useful on transfer day: if you can't find your driver or have a last-minute change, you can message support directly and get a response within minutes.

Response times are generally fast — under 30 minutes for urgent issues during business hours. They also have a dedicated quality team that follows up on negative experiences, which helps maintain their high service standards.

Mobile Experience

Welcome Pickups has the best mobile app in the airport transfer industry. Available on iOS and Android, it offers real-time driver tracking (you can see your driver approaching the airport on a map), in-app chat with your driver, push notifications for pickup status, and trip details at your fingertips. The experience is comparable to Uber or Bolt, but for pre-booked transfers.

The app also provides local tips, city information, and sometimes bundled products like SIM cards or city passes. It transforms what's usually an anxious airport moment — "where is my driver?" — into a smooth, tracked experience. For tech-savvy travelers, this alone can justify the price premium.

Our Verdict

Welcome Pickups is the premium choice among airport transfer services. If you want the best experience — real-time tracking, curated drivers, free child seats, and excellent support — and you're willing to pay 20-40% more for it, Welcome Pickups delivers. It's the service we recommend for families, first-time travelers, and anyone who values peace of mind over saving a few euros.

The main limitation is coverage. If your airport isn't on their list, you'll need to use an alternative. Check their site first — if they cover your route, they're hard to beat on quality.

FAQ

Welcome Pickups FAQ

Yes — Welcome Pickups includes free child seats (infant carriers, child seats, and boosters) on every route. You select the seat type during booking and it's ready in the car when you arrive. This is unique among major transfer platforms.

After booking, you download their app. On transfer day, you can see your driver's real-time location on a map as they approach the airport. You also get push notifications when the driver arrives and can chat with them through the app if needed.

Yes — Welcome Pickups offers a dedicated app for iOS and Android with real-time driver tracking, live chat with your driver, and a built-in city guide for your destination. The app is one of their biggest differentiators from competitors.

It depends on what the arrival looks like. Across the 91 route pairs we price on this site, Welcome Pickups runs about 20–35% above Kiwitaxi, with a median of 25% — Lisbon is €32 against €24, Amsterdam €46 against €38, Marrakech €20 against €15. What the difference buys is a driver waiting inside arrivals with a sign, child seats at no extra charge, and a local driver briefed on your destination. Arriving alone with hand luggage into an airport you know, that premium buys little. Arriving with two children into CDG Terminal 2, it buys the part of the trip most likely to go wrong.

Welcome Pickups tracks the flight number you booked with and moves the pickup to the actual landing time, so a 45-minute delay does not cost you the driver. Free waiting runs 60 minutes from landing at most airports, which covers a slow immigration queue or a family moving at child speed.

Cancel more than 24 hours before pickup and you choose between two outcomes: a cash refund of 80% of the fare, since Welcome Pickups keeps a 20% cancellation fee, or a flex coupon worth 100% of what you paid, valid for 12 months in any city they operate in and transferable to someone else. Cash refunds take 3–5 business days. Inside 24 hours nothing is refunded and no coupon is issued. Booking details cannot be changed at all within 12 hours of pickup. For airport pickups the window is counted from the scheduled landing time rather than from when the driver would set off. If a coupon works for you the cancellation is effectively free; if you need the money back, it costs 20%.
