Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA): Taxi, MRT or Pre-Booked Car in 2026?

Songshan is a city airport, ten to fifteen minutes by car from central Taipei, with a metro station under the terminal. That makes it the opposite of Taoyuan — and most advice written for Taoyuan does not apply here.

Last updated: 3 October 2026

Short answer for Taipei Songshan (TSA): the MRT Brown (Wenhu) Line stops under the terminal and costs NT$20–30 into the centre; Taipei Main Station needs one change and about 15–20 minutes. A taxi runs on the meter — NT$85 for the first 1.25 km, then NT$5 every 200 m — plus a NT$50 surcharge for taxis leaving Songshan, so most central hotels come to about NT$200–300. Do not confuse it with Taoyuan (TPE), 40 km away, where a taxi is NT$1,200–1,600.

Songshan or Taoyuan: check which one you fly into

Taipei has two airports. Songshan (TSA) sits inside the city, in Songshan District, and handles domestic flights plus a handful of regional routes such as Tokyo Haneda, Seoul Gimpo and Shanghai Hongqiao. Taoyuan (TPE) handles most international flights and lies about 40 km out, with the Airport MRT at NT$160 to Taipei Main and taxis at NT$1,200–1,600 including tolls.

Everything below is about Songshan. If your ticket says TPE, see the Taoyuan to Taipei route guide instead.

The MRT from the terminal

Songshan Airport station on the Brown Line (also called the Wenhu Line) is reached from the terminal basement. A ride into the centre costs NT$20–30. For Taipei Main Station you change once — at Zhongxiao Fuxing or Daan — and the whole trip takes about 15–20 minutes. With one suitcase it is the cheapest and often the fastest option.

Taxi from Songshan: the meter plus NT$50

Taipei taxis run on the meter: NT$85 for the first 1.25 km, then NT$5 for every 200 m, with NT$5 for every 1 minute 20 seconds in slow traffic. Since 1 January 2024 taxis leaving Songshan Airport add a NT$50 surcharge, and a NT$20 night surcharge applies from 11pm to 6am.

In practice that puts most central hotels at about NT$200–300, and Taipei 101 at about NT$220–280. The taxi rank is outside arrivals; 55688 and LINE Taxi book licensed taxis at the meter rate, while Uber quotes upfront and can surge at peak times.

When a pre-booked car is worth it

Honestly, rarely at Songshan: the airport is in the city, the MRT is in the basement and a taxi costs a few hundred Taiwan dollars. A pre-booked car makes sense for a group with a lot of luggage, for a business arrival where someone else is paying for certainty, or for an onward trip well outside Taipei. Kiwitaxi, Welcome Pickups, GetTransfer and intui.travel serve Taipei; for Taoyuan the case for booking is much stronger.
