Madrid Airport: €33 Taxi, Uber or Pre-Booked Transfer in 2026?

Madrid is one of the few European capitals where ride-hailing, a regulated flat taxi and a 24-hour express bus all work well from the airport. The flat fare sets the ceiling; the question is how far under it you can go.

Last updated: 3 October 2026

Short answer for Madrid-Barajas (MAD): the taxi is a flat €33 to any address inside the M-30 ring road, 24 hours a day, with no supplements for night, luggage or the airport. UberX averaged about €25 on Uber’s own route data, so the app usually saves around €8 unless demand surges. The Exprés Aeropuerto bus is €5 and runs all night. A pre-booked transfer — Welcome Pickups from €35 — costs slightly more than the taxi and is worth it mainly for groups, child seats and late arrivals.

The €33 flat fare covers the whole M-30

Madrid taxis from Barajas charge a flat €33 (Tarifa 4) to any address inside the M-30 ring road — which takes in the centre, Salamanca, Chamberí, Retiro and most hotels a visitor books. It applies around the clock, and there are no extra charges for night, luggage or the airport. The rate rose from €30 on 1 January 2024 and was confirmed in the January 2026 tariff update; guides quoting €30 are out of date.

Outside the M-30 the meter runs, with a €22 minimum that covers the first 9 km.

Uber, Cabify and Bolt: usually cheaper, from a separate zone

Uber’s own route data puts the average UberX from the airport to Madrid at about €25, for roughly 16 km and 23 minutes — around €8 under the flat taxi. Cabify and Bolt also operate. Ride-hailing pickups are from signed VTC areas at each terminal, separate from the taxi rank.

The flat taxi wins back in two cases: late-night surges, when app prices can pass €33, and groups, because Uber Van averages about €50 while a standard Madrid taxi takes four people at the flat fare.

The Exprés Aeropuerto: €5, all night

Bus 203, the Exprés Aeropuerto, runs from the terminals to Atocha in 30 to 40 minutes for €5, around the clock — every 15 to 20 minutes by day and every 35 minutes at night, when it runs as the N27 and ends at Cibeles. There is no luggage surcharge, and you can pay by card or cash on board.

For a solo traveller with a backpack it is the obvious answer. For two people heading somewhere other than Atocha, a €25 Uber to the door is better value.

When a pre-booked transfer is worth it

Welcome Pickups starts at €35 from Barajas — a little above the flat taxi — with the driver inside the terminal. That is worth paying for a late arrival, a child seat, or a group that needs one larger vehicle rather than two taxis. Kiwitaxi, GetTransfer and intui.travel cover Madrid too; compare their cancellation terms, which matter more than a few euros of price.

The short version

Solo: the €5 express bus. Two people: UberX at about €25, or the €33 taxi if the app is surging. Three or four with luggage: the €33 flat taxi. Five or more, a child seat or a 1am landing: a pre-booked transfer.
