Bali airport has a well-known 'taxi mafia' — a cooperative of drivers who control the official taxi rank and charge fixed rates that are 2–3x higher than Grab or pre-booked transfers. You can't use Grab for pickup directly at arrivals (it's blocked in the airport zone). Your options: pay the official rate, walk 300m outside the airport compound to the Grab pickup zone, or — the simplest option — have a pre-booked transfer driver waiting with your name at arrivals. The price difference is significant: ₱150,000 IDR (official taxi to Seminyak) vs ₱80,000–100,000 (pre-booked).

Choosing between Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, and Ubud

Transfer time varies dramatically depending on your destination. Kuta is just 10 minutes from the airport; Seminyak 20–30 minutes; Canggu 40–60 minutes (the Canggu road is a bottleneck); and Ubud 60–90 minutes through winding inland roads. Traffic peaks in late afternoon (4–7pm) when all four routes slow down. If you're arriving late (after 10pm), even Ubud is reachable in under an hour.
