Kiwitaxi is a booking platform, not a transport company. When you book through Kiwitaxi, you're actually hiring a local transfer operator who has been vetted and contracted by Kiwitaxi. This is the same model used by most airport transfer comparison sites — similar to how Booking.com works for hotels.
The booking process is straightforward: enter your airport (or any pickup point), your destination address or hotel, select a date and time, and choose a vehicle class. Prices are fixed at the time of booking — no meters, no surge pricing, no surprises. You pay online in advance, and receive confirmation with your driver's details (name, phone number, vehicle type and license plate) by email, typically 12-24 hours before pickup.
At the airport, your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign. If your flight is delayed, the driver monitors your flight and adjusts — there's no penalty for flight delays.
Kiwitaxi's pricing sits in the mid-range among airport transfer services. They're generally cheaper than Welcome Pickups (which charges a premium for their tracking app and curated experience) but more expensive than GetTransfer (which uses an auction model where drivers bid on your route). For most popular routes, expect to pay €15–50 for a sedan transfer.
The fixed pricing model means no unpleasant surprises. What you see at booking is what you pay — tolls, parking fees, and flight monitoring are included. The only exception is if you book additional services like a child seat (€5-10 extra on most routes).
This is one of Kiwitaxi's strongest points. They operate in over 100 countries across every continent. While Welcome Pickups focuses on about 80 airports in popular tourist destinations, Kiwitaxi covers a much wider range of locations — including smaller airports in Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and Africa. If you're flying into a secondary airport in a less-visited country, Kiwitaxi is more likely to have coverage than most competitors.
Kiwitaxi offers multiple vehicle classes depending on the route: Economy (standard sedan for 1-3 passengers), Comfort (larger sedan or SUV), Minivan (4-7 passengers), and Minibus (up to 19 passengers). On popular routes, you may also see Business class options. Each listing shows the exact vehicle model or type, maximum passengers, maximum luggage pieces, and included amenities.
Free cancellation is available up to 24 hours before the scheduled pickup time — this is fairly standard in the industry. Cancellations within 24 hours are handled on a case-by-case basis and may incur a fee or be non-refundable. For changes (different time, destination), Kiwitaxi is generally flexible if you contact them early enough.
Kiwitaxi offers support via email and an online form. They don't have phone support or live chat, which is a limitation compared to Welcome Pickups (which offers in-app chat). Response times are generally acceptable (within a few hours) but can slow down during peak travel season. For urgent issues on the day of transfer, you're expected to contact the local operator directly using the phone number provided in your confirmation.
Kiwitaxi launched its first mobile app in January 2026 for iOS and Android. The app lets you book transfers, view trip details, add trips to Apple Wallet or your calendar, and manage bookings. It's a newer app compared to Welcome Pickups' more mature offering, so some features like real-time driver tracking are still catching up.
