Taxi and Uber context
Taiwan taxis are metered, safe, and affordable. From Taoyuan airport, taxis cost NT$1,200–1,500 to central Taipei. The Taoyuan Airport MRT runs to Taipei Main Station in 35 minutes for NT$160. This is why pre-booked transfers are popular — fixed prices, no surprises.
Local tip
Taipei's TPE is 40 km west of the city. The Taoyuan Airport MRT opened in 2017 and changed the calculation entirely: NT$150 (€4.50) for the Express service to Taipei Main Station in 35 minutes, or NT$150 for the Commuter at 50 minutes. This is excellent and usually the right choice. Official taxis are NT$1,000–1,300 (€30–40). Pre-booked transfers at €22–40 compete mainly on door-to-door convenience.
How we rated each service
For Taipei we tested each platform against the Taoyuan Airport MRT as the baseline. Key factors: door-to-door value for hotels far from MRT, English communication (Mandarin-only drivers still exist in the local pool), and handling of Taiwan's frequent afternoon thunderstorms during summer.
Our verdict
Taipei is a light pre-book case — the Taoyuan Airport MRT is genuinely excellent. Pre-booked transfers win for: families with kids and luggage, groups of 3+ splitting €30, destinations far from MRT stations (Yangmingshan, Beitou hot springs), and late arrivals after MRT frequency drops. For most solo travelers and couples, the MRT is the right call.

Common questions about transfer services
GetTransfer bids for TPE → central Taipei (Zhongshan, Xinyi, Ximen) typically win at NT$800–1,100 (€24–33). Kiwitaxi fixed prices run NT$1,100–1,500 (€33–45). The Taoyuan Airport MRT Express at NT$150 is dramatically cheaper for travelers with manageable luggage.
Taiwan taxis are metered, safe, and affordable. From Taoyuan airport, taxis cost NT$1,200–1,500 to central Taipei. The Taoyuan Airport MRT runs to Taipei Main Station in 35 minutes for NT$160. Pre-booked transfers offer fixed pricing, meet-and-greet, and flight tracking — worth it for families, groups, and late arrivals.
Taipei transfers are stable year-round. Book 48 hours ahead outside Lunar New Year and Taiwan national holidays (Mid-Autumn Festival, Dragon Boat Festival) when driver availability drops.
Taiwan requires child seats for children under 4 and booster seats up to 12. Welcome Pickups provides them free. Kiwitaxi charges a supplement. For GetTransfer and intui.travel, confirm before booking — not all Taiwanese private drivers stock them.
TPE has clean live-flight integration with all four platforms. Taiwanese immigration is efficient (15–25 minutes for most nationalities). The 60-minute free waiting buffer from Welcome Pickups and Kiwitaxi is comfortable.
